About ZKsync (ZK)
What is zkSync?
zk-Rollup technology that zkSync uses is a combination of two concepts — zk, which stands for ‘zero knowledge’ and rollups, which refer to smart contracts.
The project is based on principles that decentralized networks must adhere to in order to be truly decentralized and useful, such as trustlessness, security, reliability, censorship resistance, privacy, hyperscalability, accessibility, and sovereignty.
These are the ZK principles that empower networks that do not require trusting the operators in order to secure users’ assets and control. However, the project also stresses that technology is only one half of what is needed to achieve decentralization, as another half is the community with the same mindset and goals.
By combining the two, the project believes that the Ethereum-based Web3 sector can become a stronghold for privacy, and achieve limitless scalability while still maintaining integrity.
What makes zkSync unique?
zkSync, and especially zkSync Era, offer a range of industry-leading features. These features support the development of secure, highly scalable and interoperable decentralized applications.
The protocol’s main strength is the fact that it offers EVM compatibility in a permissionless way. It also offers massive scalability with a Hyperscaling feature.
It computes all transactions off-chain, thus storing most of the data off-chain, as well. These transactions are verified, and a validity proof is submitted on the Ethereum mainnet, where it is stored safely, while still being publicly available. This is what makes zkSync unique, and what lets it offer Ethereum-like security on the Layer-2 rollup network.
